Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s firm stand against terrorism at the G7 Outreach Session, calling upon global leaders to take decisive action against those who “promote and support” terrorism. Speaking at the summit hosted in Canada, Modi also emphasized the importance of addressing the concerns and aspirations of the Global South.

During his address on Tuesday, the Prime Minister described his interactions with G7 leaders as “productive” and highlighted shared aspirations for a better and more sustainable world. His appeal comes amid heightened global tensions and a shifting geopolitical landscape.

The G7 Summit 2025 is being held against the backdrop of escalating conflict in the Middle East, particularly the intensifying hostilities between Iran and Israel. U.S. President Donald Trump, who arrived in Kananaskis on June 15, made headlines by departing the summit a day early on Monday, urging an immediate evacuation of Tehran due to the conflict.

Leaders attending the summit included Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, France’s President Emmanuel Macron, Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who posed for a family photo on Tuesday.

The G7, an informal forum of the world’s major advanced economies—France, the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, and the European Union—meets annually to discuss and coordinate on global economic and security matters.

India, recognized as the world’s fifth-largest economy, has been a regular participant in the summit’s Outreach sessions, reinforcing its growing global influence.

Discussions at this year’s summit also focused on major ongoing crises, including the Russia-Ukraine war and instability in West Asia. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the next G7 leaders’ summit will be held in Evian, nestled in the French Alps.
