New Delhi – India is witnessing a renewed spike in COVID-19 cases, with the total number of active infections climbing to 4,302 and seven deaths reported in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This surge includes the first confirmed case in Himachal Pradesh and rising numbers in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Gujarat.

Daily Tally and Recoveries

In the last 24 hours:

  • 276 new active cases were recorded
  • 3,281 patients were discharged after recovery

State-wise Case Spike

Major urban centres are seeing a notable increase in infections:

  • Delhi: 64 new cases
  • Uttar Pradesh: 63 new cases
  • West Bengal: 60 new cases
  • Gujarat: 108 new cases, total active caseload at 461
    • Out of these, 20 patients are hospitalized, while the rest are in home isolation.

Seven Fatalities Across Four States

Seven COVID-related deaths have been reported, primarily among patients with pre-existing conditions:

  • Delhi:
    • A 22-year-old woman with a medical history of pulmonary tuberculosis, COVID pneumonia, and Type 1 respiratory failure.
  • Maharashtra (4 deaths):
    • 55-year-old man with cardiac arrhythmia and COPD
    • 73-year-old man with cardiogenic shock, Parkinson’s, and COVID pneumonia
    • 23-year-old woman with diabetes and hypertension
    • 27-year-old man with ischemic heart disease, chronic bronchitis, and alcohol withdrawal seizures
  • Tamil Nadu:
    • 76-year-old man with ARDS, sepsis, and multi-organ failure
  • Gujarat:
    • One fatality reported, details awaited.

Himachal Pradesh Reports First Case

The first COVID-19 case in Himachal during the current wave was confirmed in an 82-year-old woman at Nahan Medical College and Hospital. She presented with symptoms of cold and cough, according to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Amitabh Jain.

Health Advisory and Response

Although hospitalisations remain low, the spike in daily cases and fatalities has led to heightened monitoring and testing, especially in high-density urban areas. Health authorities urge the public to:

  • Wear masks in crowded settings
  • Maintain hand hygiene
  • Get booster vaccinations, particularly those in vulnerable categories
