Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder reveals a spine-chilling conspiracy involving impersonation, false identities, and multiple failed murder plans.

In a shocking development, the Meghalaya Police has unearthed a macabre twist in the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. According to investigators, the accused had initially planned to kill an unidentified woman, burn the body, and pass it off as Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, to help her disappear without suspicion.

The plot was part of a larger conspiracy hatched months before Raja’s wedding. Police arrested four individuals, including Raj Kushwaha, the alleged mastermind, and Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is now confirmed to be a co-conspirator.

Gruesome Details Emerge

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem stated that Raj Kushwaha and Sonam had devised at least four separate plans to execute Raja, most of which failed. One chilling plan included making it appear that Sonam had drowned in a river. Another involved murdering any random woman, placing the body on Sonam’s scooter, setting it ablaze, and declaring it as Sonam’s remains.

Ultimately, Raja was murdered on May 19 in Sohra, after all accused had gathered in Nongriat. The group lured him to Weisawdong Falls, where he was attacked with a machete in a parking area and his body was dumped in a nearby gorge—in front of Sonam.

Timeline of the Murder Plot

  • Planning Began: February (3 months before wedding)
  • Location of Murder: Weisawdong Falls, Sohra
  • Initial Plans: Murder in Guwahati, fake river drowning, body impersonation
  • Escape: Post-murder, Sonam wore a burqa provided via Vishal Chauhan and fled Shillong for Indore.

One of the accomplices, Akash, received a raincoat from Sonam to hide blood stains on his shirt. The raincoat was later discarded due to blood contamination.

A local tour guide reported seeing the group, which helped in retracing their movement. As police closed in, Raj allegedly instructed Sonam to stage a fake abduction and reappear in Siliguri. However, after Akash’s arrest on June 8, panic set in. Sonam contacted her family claiming escape from abduction and surfaced in Ghazipur on June 9, where she surrendered.

Who’s Involved?

  • Raja Raghuvanshi – Victim
  • Sonam Raghuvanshi – Wife & co-conspirator
  • Raj Kushwaha – Mastermind
  • Akash, Vishal Chauhan – Accomplices; one is Raj’s cousin

Police continue their investigation as the details reveal a deep premeditated conspiracy involving betrayal, impersonation, and calculated murder.
