Honeymoon Turns Tragic: Meghalaya Police Allege Wife’s Affair Behind Indore Man’s Murder

Meghalaya-Police-Allege-Wife’s-Affair-Behind-Indore-Man’s Murder

In a chilling twist to the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, police have alleged that the victim’s wife, Sonam, was involved in an extramarital affair that ultimately led to the brutal killing of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi.

The 29-year-old from Indore had gone missing with his wife on May 23 during their honeymoon in Shillong. His body was recovered from a gorge on June 2, with injuries indicating he was hacked to death with a sharp weapon, possibly a machete. Sonam, 24, remained untraceable for days, until her sudden appearance at a roadside eatery in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 8.

According to Meghalaya Police, Sonam was allegedly in a relationship with her employee, Raj Kushwaha. The two are accused of conspiring to eliminate Raja. Sonam reportedly surrendered under pressure and was subsequently taken into custody along with Raj Kushwaha.

The police claim that the couple had initially planned to visit Kamakhya temple in Guwahati. However, the change in itinerary to Meghalaya has raised eyebrows within the victim’s family. “They never booked return tickets,” said Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja’s brother, suggesting premeditation.

Raja’s brother further stated that Sonam and Raj were often in contact over phone calls, though he never personally met Raj. While not directly accusing Sonam, the family believes she may have played a role if Raj was indeed involved.

The discovery of Raja’s body and Sonam being found alive has led to multiple questions from the victim’s family. “Who were the other people involved in Raja’s murder?” asked Sachin, another brother.

Police said three additional suspects—two from Indore and one from Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur—have also been arrested in connection with the case.

Sonam’s family has denied all allegations. Her father, Devi Singh, asserted that the marriage was consensual and peaceful. “She cannot do this. They were happy together,” he claimed, demanding a CBI investigation and accusing Meghalaya Police of framing her.

Backing this demand, Raja’s family also called for an impartial probe by Madhya Pradesh Police or the CBI. “If she is guilty, she should be punished. But we need a transparent investigation,” said Vipul.

Raja’s mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, echoed the sentiment. “She was a good daughter-in-law. But if she had any role in this, she should be hanged.”

The case continues to unravel with more arrests and allegations, painting a grim picture of betrayal, conspiracy, and a honeymoon that ended in tragedy.
