State-Wise COVID Deaths Reported
Delhi reported two COVID-related deaths. One was a 5-month-old boy with Global Developmental Delay (GDD), seizure disorder, pneumonia with sepsis, and respiratory failure. The second was an 87-year-old man who suffered from diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, kidney issues, and severe ARDS; he succumbed to COVID pneumonia and septic shock.
Karnataka also reported two fatalities. A 65-year-old male patient with hypertension, ischemic heart disease, and undergoing chemotherapy for colon cancer passed away. A 42-year-old man also died due to septic shock following an ileal obstruction with Type-1 respiratory failure, associated with COVID-19.
Maharashtra recorded three deaths. Two 76-year-old men died — one due to acute kidney injury and the other with a combination of atypical viral pneumonia, COVID-19, acute coronary syndrome, and cardiogenic shock. Additionally, a 79-year-old woman passed away from multiorgan dysfunction syndrome linked to COVID-19.
Mock Drills and Preparedness Measures
In response to the rise in cases, high-level technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3, chaired by Dr. Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services (DGHS). These sessions involved representatives from key health bodies such as the Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response (EMR) Cell, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Central Government Hospitals in Delhi, and officials from all States and Union Territories.
States have been advised to ensure readiness of medical infrastructure, including the availability of oxygen supplies, isolation wards, ventilators, and essential medications. On June 2, a nationwide mock drill was carried out to assess oxygen supply systems like PSA plants, LMO tanks, and MGPS lines. Further facility-level preparedness drills were scheduled for June 4 and 5.
