NIA Arrests CRPF Jawan in Delhi Over Espionage Charges for Pakistan
New Delhi – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel on allegations of espionage and leaking sensitive national security information to Pakistan’s intelligence officials.
In an official statement, the NIA revealed that the accused, identified as Moti Ram Jat, had been involved in sharing classified information with Pakistani Intelligence Officers (PIOs) since 2023. The agency further stated that Jat had received funds from PIOs through multiple intermediaries.
“The accused, Moti Ram Jat, was actively involved in espionage activity and had been sharing classified information related to national security with Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) since 2023,” the agency said. “He was receiving funds from the PIOs through various conduits.”
Jat was arrested from Delhi and has been remanded to NIA custody till June 6, as per the order of the Special Court at Patiala House Courts. His interrogation is currently ongoing, officials confirmed.
This development comes at a time when Indian security agencies have increased surveillance on espionage and subversive activities, especially after the Pahalgam terror attack and heightened tensions with Pakistan.
Earlier this month, a crackdown on an alleged Pakistan-linked spy network led to the detention of at least 12 individuals across Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Among those arrested is Jyoti Malhotra, a YouTuber with over 3.77 lakh subscribers and 1.33 lakh Instagram followers, who was reportedly in contact with a Pakistani Embassy staffer.
Another individual, Guzala, aged 31 and from Punjab, was also found to have links with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a Pakistani official who was compelled to leave India recently.
A senior Haryana official, speaking to PTI, confirmed that several YouTube channels are under surveillance, and an extensive operation is underway to identify more individuals possibly involved in espionage against India.
