Kolkata Gangrape Case: Police Warn Against Revealing Survivor’s Identity; DNA Samples of Accused Collected

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police have issued a strong warning against attempts to reveal the identity of the law student who was allegedly gang-raped inside South Kolkata Law College on June 25. Officials described the act as a “serious violation of the law” and emphasized that any such actions would lead to strict legal consequences.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Kolkata Police urged the public to refrain from circulating confidential documents or sharing any information—online or offline—that could lead to the identification of the survivor. “Respecting the dignity and privacy of victims is not only a legal obligation but also a moral imperative,” the advisory stated.

DNA Samples and Forensic Evidence Collected

As part of the ongoing investigation, police collected DNA samples of the three accused—alumnus Monojit Mishra and current students Pratim Mukherjee and Zaid Ahmed—on Monday. The trio was taken to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, where doctors extracted body fluid, urine, and hair samples during a procedure that lasted nearly eight hours.

Authorities suspect that the assault was premeditated. The police have also collected forensic samples from the union room, guard’s room, and bathroom of the law college, where the incident allegedly took place.

Forensic Analysis of Seized Video Clip

A 1.5-minute-long video clip capturing the alleged torture was seized from the mobile phone of the prime accused. The clip has been sent for forensic examination. Investigators are also looking into whether the video was shared with others. If so, those individuals will be traced and questioned.

Protests by Junior Lawyers and Students

Meanwhile, protests erupted across the city as junior lawyers and law students demanded justice for the survivor. Demonstrations took place outside the college campus, with participants condemning the incident and calling for swift legal action.
