Assembly Bypoll Election Results 2025: BJP, AAP, Congress Secure Key Wins Across States — Live Updates
Counting for five Assembly bypolls held across Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, and West Bengal concluded today. The BJP and AAP clinched one seat each in Gujarat, while Congress emerged victorious in Kerala.
The results of the much-anticipated Assembly by-elections are in, with significant wins for BJP, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Congress in various constituencies. Polling was conducted on June 19 for five seats — two in Gujarat (Visavadar and Kadi), and one each in Kerala’s Nilambur, Punjab’s Ludhiana West, and West Bengal’s Kaliganj.
Gujarat Bypolls: AAP Wins Visavadar, BJP Retains Kadi
In a significant win for the Aam Aadmi Party, Gopal Italia secured the Visavadar seat with 75,942 votes, defeating BJP’s Kirit Patel by 17,554 votes. Congress’ Nitin Ranpariya came a distant third with 5,501 votes. The seat became vacant after the resignation of AAP’s Bhupendra Bhayani in December 2023.
On the other hand, BJP’s Rajendra Chavda retained the Kadi seat, reserved for Scheduled Castes, by defeating Congress’ Ramesh Chavda with a margin of nearly 40,000 votes. Rajendra Chavda secured 99,742 votes, while Ramesh Chavda received 60,290.
Manish Sisodia Hails AAP’s Gains in Gujarat and Punjab

Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia congratulated party workers after AAP’s success in Gujarat and its lead in Punjab. “This is a matter of great joy. Both seats are crucial. This boosts morale ahead of the 2027 Punjab assembly elections. We have won the semi-final; now it’s time for the final,” he said.
He praised Gopal Italia as a “sharp leader” who would become a strong voice for the party.
Kerala: Congress’ Aryadan Shoukath Wins Nilambur
In a setback to the ruling LDF in Kerala, Congress-led UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath won the Nilambur seat by over 11,000 votes, defeating CPI(M)’s M Swaraj. Shoukath secured more than 77,000 votes in total. The bypoll was necessitated due to the resignation of the sitting MLA.
Punjab: AAP’s Sanjeev Arora Leads in Ludhiana West
AAP’s Sanjeev Arora is leading in Punjab’s Ludhiana West by-election, with 22,205 votes against Congress’ Bharat Bhushan Ashu (17,457 votes). BJP’s Jiwan Gupta trails in third place with 13,882 votes. The contest here has been a four-way battle, also featuring SAD’s Parupkar Singh Ghumman.
West Bengal: Trinamool’s Alifa Ahmed Dominates Kaliganj

Trinamool Congress is on track to win the Kaliganj seat in West Bengal. Candidate Alifa Ahmed has widened her lead to 26,500 votes, having secured 47,000 votes so far. BJP’s Ashish Ghosh is second with 20,500 votes, followed by Congress’ Kabil Uddin Sheikh, supported by the Left Front.
Why the Bypolls Were Held
These by-elections were necessitated due to the deaths of sitting legislators in one seat each in Gujarat, Punjab, and West Bengal, and the resignation of two MLAs from Kerala and Gujarat.
