iPhone Users Report Mail App Crashes After iOS 18.5 Update — Temporary Fixes Offer Little Relief

Apple yet to acknowledge issue as users seek workarounds for persistent Mail app crashes.

A growing number of iPhone users are experiencing major issues with the built-in Mail app following the recent iOS 18.5 update. Reports suggest that the app either displays a blank screen or crashes immediately upon launch, leaving users frustrated and seeking solutions.

The issue began surfacing shortly after the rollout of iOS 18.5 last month. Since then, users across Apple Communities, Reddit, and other forums have voiced their concerns, describing how the Mail app becomes unresponsive or crashes unexpectedly.

“My Mail app no longer works after the iOS 18.5 update. I uninstalled and re-installed, and it attempts to open (blank white screen) and crashes every time,” wrote one user on Apple Community. “Was this intentional? Does Apple know that I use my phone for business and this is crippling?”

Despite several attempts by users to find a fix—including restarting the device, force closing the app, disabling auto-correct, and reinstalling the app—none of the solutions appear to provide a permanent remedy.

Another user shared on Reddit:

“Response time is laggy, app is freezing and unresponsive, emails will not open, inbox won’t refresh to show new mail (although I’ve received a notification), etc. Restarting the device does fix it, but only temporarily—and that’s being generous.”

A third user, claiming to own an iPhone 15, noted similar issues, particularly when using dark mode:

“Whenever I open the Mail app, either my screen is just black, or the mails start glitching when I try to scroll up or down. I don’t know what to do about it.”

As of now, Apple has not officially acknowledged the issue nor released a patch or workaround. Users who rely on the Mail app for business or daily communication are urging Apple to prioritize a solution.

Until then, those affected may need to consider using alternative email apps or webmail platforms as a temporary workaround.
